The extraordinary automaton piece, Trash Phoenix, made by Michael Curry for the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, Georgia, incorporates an innovative design, where a trashcan unfolds into gain wings, and the body and head of a giant bird emerges. Accompanying this movement is a sound track of terrifying sound effects and music. Here is the original concept drawing Curry created for the piece, an additional technical rendering for the back view of the piece, and technical schematics for the electronics.
